SOON YOU'LL GET YOUR GEAR FROM MARKS AND SPARKS

So guests attending the upcoming Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Dress code: Punk) are said to be in a bit of a tizz over what to wear. Well, they could take some inspiration from this black jersey ripped and torn classic by Zandra Rhodes. How fabulous of Vogue to embrace this ‘no holds barred style’, which they presented in a high-gloss fashion – the smoky cats-eye make-up and slick of lipstick, wild shag hairstyle and chain accessory (optional) reflected the blurring of punk/disco scenes that were not quite as contemptuous of one another as has been previously presumed. This image was part of a story titled ‘Ruffling the calm of British evenings’, but what I love most about this editorial is the description of the glam shoes by Manolo Blahnik for Zapata. They are billed as ‘Very high heel gold sandals’. Obviously Kelly Brook wasn’t born yet*.
