DEBORAH TURBEVILLE

DEBORAH TURBEVILLE

Ghostly, erotic, nostalgic, disturbing, mysterious, disorientating and alluring in equal parts, Deborah Turbeville’s photographs appear like frozen frames from a film yet made. This image featuring fashion designer Jean Muir and models wearing her designs was taken in 1975 and was used for the invitation to the private view of The Narrative Works (Photographs 1975-1997), the photographer’s magnificently evocative retrospective show at The Wapping Project in 2006. It is an artefact that I am currently documenting as part of another new project, to be announced soon.

Deborah Turbeville died in New York on October 24th.
